Aren't these all nipping at the heels of VxWorks?

yeah but it has changed a lot since forking of VxWorks. 

The device tree mechanism is far messier compared to Linux Kernel and the software errors are really hard to debug because of the several layers of C macros.

I guess the core VxWorks kernel was nice. 


It might cause long term maintenance issues.
