Making a distinction between members and followers unlocks better content, drives more (meaningful) engagement and over time attracts users

Because you may be just interested in a topic (eg /design) as an enthusiast, in which case you can just follow and read the content for free

But what's the content? Who's posting it? Up to now, the answer to these questions was unclear

It was good fun, but as Farcaster grows we need higher signal ways to let users qualify content to decide whether it is worth their attention and time

One outcome of distinguishing between followers and content publishers is that the content becomes higher quality. This prevents Farcaster and the channels from turning into a time thief filled with pointless casts.
