"A trans" is not a respectful way to refer to a person. That form of referring to someone is often used as dehumanizing rhetoric.

If you want to ask someone if they're trans - though I'd suggest not doing so, generally, because that's a very personal question AND it has problematic implications about what and how trans people should present - you ask, "You're trans?"
