Bulfinch’s Mythology

Eminently digestible and sanitized rendition of classical myths. 

Even with some of the juice robbed out of them, these are timeless and entertaining tales. 

I strongly encourage you to read mythology, especially Greek and Roman. Read every version you get your hands on until you can’t keep them all straight and you can’t help but create your own version when you tell it aloud to your friends and family. 

There’s nothing as Lindy. Try allocating even 5-10% of your reading time to myths for a while and see if they don’t claim proportionally more mental real estate. 

Start with a direct translation of the Homeric Hymns or Metamorphoses and branch out from there.

The Aeneid

Aeneas travels from fallen Troy to Italy, fights a war, and founds Rome. 

The underlying story is exactly on point for me, but the Robert Fagles translation didn’t quite hit the spot. 

Anyone have a favorite translation? I’d like to give it another shot.

Always a fan of Stanley Lombardo.  He also has an amazing translation of the Iliad.
