Yes, so the idea is you grow your village and have enough food to sustain the growth in the timespan you got until your fire almost burns out. 
So you chop wood and use that to build huts, those will house villagers. Then when there is around 30-40 hours left, focus on getting the food. Until you have enough food to sustain the growth and you stoke the fire to grow your village and start a new round.

You need some fire coin to stoke your fire, coin has a 5% tax and part of that tax goes into the rewards of the players

The players with the highest scores get the highest allocation of rewards

Also you need to protect against raiding neighbours
