When I was in college I had professors ding the fuck out of students for using Wikipedia; there were also students that went out of their way to use Wikipedia on purpose to prove that it was just as valid. What do you think changed since then?

Wikipedia was never a primary source, the point of using references is to cite primary sources. It's fine to use Wikipedia to find sources though (that's what many college students do).

Idk specifically OP reasoning but the argument I’ve heard isn’t worrying about accuracy of sourcing due to open editing ability, it’s that moderators on average have very clear political stances. If you look at something like the article on the NBA, yeah that’s gonna be accurate. If you look at the article on something political, you just have to keep in mind what those stances are
