Was this a valid and just prosecution or the use of the judiciary to determine political outcomes? We've seen similar actions in Romania (Georgescu) and also the USA (Trump) in recent years.

It's valid, although you can imagine someone else might have gotten away with it. Georgescu's case was also valid, but you could argue that the Romanian authorities should have handled it better.
