I had some issues finishing triangles from the back, and then I realized one fundamental principle. You only get the angles right if the base of your triangle is completely aligned with the back/shoulder line of your opponent. That also means that one of your hip/knee/ankle joints must pair with each of your opponents shoulder. If the apex of your triangle does not align with the chin of your opponent, then it is not a choke. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTW9tXjh-NY
