Thank you @pkok for having me! My style blends fine art and documentary portraiture, emphasizing human emotions through an honest yet compassionate visual approach. I often work in a monochromatic visual language to transcend specific time periods, presenting my narratives as timeless stories of humanity.

First off, thank you for your photography, constant presence and support of the arts on fc. 2000 $degen. What initially drew you to art, and how did your journey as an artist begin?

Thank you! 🌹 What initially drew me to art—and continues to inspire me, although to a lesser extent now—is my desire to understand myself, my childhood, and the family dynamics that shaped me. This exploration has evolved into a broader inquiry into the universal human experience: our need for belonging, our search for love, and our struggles with loss and grief. My artistic practice has become a means to delve into these fundamental and shared stories.

Those themes are indeed very prominent in your photography. Is there anyone special that helped you or nurture your interest in art when you were starting out, and what difference did they make?

Throughout my journey as an artist, while there have been a few individuals who supported me along the way, I can't pinpoint a single influential figure. Interestingly, it has often been the perceived negative experiences and challenging individuals that inspired me to explore specific topics or develop particular bodies of work. For instance, with 'Everyday Saints,' my observations of how many employers mistreat their domestic workers motivated me to create a meaningful statement on the subject.

😊 I can't narrow it down to just three—it's impossible! But let's settle on the Alfa group, @innamosina, and @nomadicframe, just to name a few. ♥️

Absolutely! For me, that distinctive moment occurred around 2020. After I transitioned away from commercial photography in late 2017 to pursue what was calling me so powerfully, I lost all support and most of my followers. I can’t recall a single person telling me I was making the right choice. However, by early 2020, I began receiving enough validation from notable publications and award organizations to realize I was on the right path. It was during this time that I understood my greatest achievement to date wasn't the awards themselves, but the moment I began to believe in myself and dedicate my efforts to what I deemed important. ❤️

I want people to fully experience what it means to be human, embracing the entire range of emotions—where all feelings are allowed and acknowledged, rather than just the positive ones being forcefully presented to us. My goal is for viewers to reconnect with the fundamental and meaningful aspects of their lives, focusing on what truly matters instead of succumbing to the constant noise and media bombardment that dictate what a perfect life should look like.

Like everyone else, I don’t enjoy creative blocks and initially resist them. My approach to these common occurrences is to meditate and deepen my spiritual practice. Spending time in nature also rejuvenates me, inspiring me at the core of my being. I don’t seek inspiration in the conventional sense; rather, I am instantly inspired by the stories of others. I find that inspiration comes to me through active listening and by living my life in the present moment.

I believe my ability to curate my work has drastically improved, along with the clarity of what I want to express and create. What’s consistent about my work is its focus on the human experience, particularly the search for intimacy and meaning. I also have a soft spot for underdog stories—not because I see these individuals as victims, but because I often encounter some of the most powerful humans who are overlooked by society.

What does beauty mean to you as an artist?

Not an easiest question! 😊 My understanding of beauty lies in the ability to embrace what is, free from the modern narratives that dictate what beauty should or shouldn't be. The most beautiful people I encounter are those who love themselves completely, flaws and all. So, I believe we can say that vulnerability is the essence of true beauty.

Thank you 🖤 It’s nearly impossible to define what constitutes a masterpiece, yet we all intuitively recognize what is and isn’t one. If I had to venture a guess, a masterpiece is not only a work that satisfies the creator but also one that holds deep significance for its viewers.
