It took me nearly two years of gentle persistence to convince Neko to let me photograph him. Despite photographing his girlfriend, Selin, and their child for almost three years, he remained hesitant. I understood the barriers he perceived between us—me being a white foreigner, him being a man unaccustomed to publicly expressing his emotions, and doing so in front of his partner. I recognized how much vulnerability and trust this required from him and approached the process with great care, treating it almost like a form of therapy. 1/2

2/2 When it finally happened, the session went incredibly well, and in that moment, the resulting image became secondary. What mattered most to me was the knowledge that we were breaking down stereotypes and dismantling old, limiting beliefs—step by step, learning to trust one another and, in doing so, healing old wounds. To me this session stands out as one of the ones I’m most proud of this year, not just for the portraits we created but for the deeper connection and transformation it symbolized.
