“smart coins”

base/fc community needs to coin new terms that are representative of our philosophy + more accessible to the public 

smart coins is a step in that direction

I hope the half-life of "smart coins" is shorter than that of "scene coins"

whether we like the term or not, i think it’s important that we create ones that serve the target audience

but both can be true! 

in-group buzzwords ≠ labels that nudge people to build and use things as we intend

a great label can lead people to get excited about the tech and think differently about how to craft products

I guess my point is that this is not a great label

Smart as a modifier means nothing (or everything) and doesn't hone in on how these coins are different from the status quo

So lacking semantic precision, the out-group (ie. the rest of crypto aside from Base/FC) discards it as yet another buzzword

imo this doesn't work

there are just coins/tokens with a category/standard (or multiple) assigned, and within that category there are good coins and shit coins

smart coins is not a category, you're referring to a "good coin" meaning great distribution, a caring community, interesting tokenomics, etc.

i am just frustrated by the lack of trying. “memecoin” is a broken, spoiled term. we shouldn’t call anything that isn’t a protocol token a memecoin.

I appreciate your intellectual honesty and being willing to consider the counterpoint here

My proposal would be to just go with "tokens" and rather than trying to create a category before the instances exist, help build / launch / foster a great token that has a revshare model. Then it can spawn the category in a more sustainable way
