Bsky monthly subscription fee trial balloons already being floated The annual FC protocol fee seems a lot more reasonable in comparison. Turns out, having a native economy is a superpower https://bsky.app/profile/hankgreen.bsky.social/post/3latu3dxets2n

Can you elaborate on the comparison?

Which part? FC protocol has a tiny, less frequently recurring fee compared to monthly subscription fees And FC clients have the option to skim some bps off order flow (and hence can fund development without subscriptions) No order flow, no take

Ah gotcha, somehow missed the monthly part Because PDS is so easy to host, we should see price competition and a race to the bottom between providers As a client it’s definitely easier to make your money back on crypto native users but that existing group is so small idk if it’s even reasonable to factor in if you’re planning to compete in social at real scale

Scale matters without an economy because it’s harder to monetize The farconomy is already a decent size, despite being a tiny network

Depends on whether the ambition of the protocol is to make decent money or take over the world

money is a per-requisite to take over the world though once people start making their livelihoods here, it will be magnetic
