Dang. I noticed the rise of greyscale and conforming to simpler forms but I didn't realize other people were seeing the physical world in less color. I just thought this was depression 😭

Refinement culture is probably closely coupled with more identification with the mind as well Notice how even logos become less and less like the real thing and become identities unto themselves: https://warpcast.com/jayme/0xf98a8457

Ah, right. I remember reading into this a lot in previous years when I was doing some freelance graphic design work. This goes in parallel with ever increasing time on screens which are hyper competitive for real estate and attention. This feels like the textbook example of where things are headed:

I mean it seems like a joke, but Twitter is now Letter So not too far away from MNCs owning colors and other primitives Didn't understand the part about increasing screentime -- why does that lead to reduction?

Sorry I misspoke; was trying to fit into 320 chars and then lazily sent! Meant to include smaller optical space (people consuming more on phones than TVs or print media) and thus designs have to be simplified. Like skeuomorphic β†’ flat design As for more screen time, we just consume things faster and faster so attention to detail is lost, if not costly. Easier to identify a Starbucks green on a home screen full of apps than look for a complex shape.

Ahh yes β€” makes sense. Prior to object / concept proliferation, you could afford to be ornate Now each object / concept must reduce noise to lighten cognitive load This is a net result of the mind eating more of the world imo

Talking to my therapist about information addiction, they mentioned information is analogous to food. We're hardwired to seek and consume it but it can be hard to stop and avoid inevitable tummy aches. Felt silly not realizing it sooner but it's something I try to do more; information dieting / mindful intake.
