I don’t believe any of the numbers because of the Instagram notification and Story gimmicks. Meta is famous for being a DAU culture and the fact they report MAU here is a flag. Go on Threads, it’s journalists Squidward behind window meme talking about Twitter.

Getting exact DAUs is hard, but from what I've seen in Web3 it's even harder. Many companies want to beef up their numbers somehow and for most of them, it's hard not to muddy the waters. I think numbers matter a lot in an ad system. Otherwise, why DAUs even matter for social media? The reality is that social media for profit seems to suck, as there's no correlation between great social media experience and profit for the company, other than keeping the services running. Aside from the DAUs story Threads has some strong points: 1. the app has great performance 2. web and mobile have almost the same features 3. still no ads yet 4. services super stable 5. no political agenda revealed yet My guess is that they want to keep these benefits as long as possible to capture as much of the market as possible is the same old story.
