are there any non-warpcast farcaster apps that allow for farcaster fid registration (signup)?

There were some at some point. Don't know if they still work. 
Flink for example. 
If you make an account using the chain or any other app it won't work on Warpcast. 

The account will be missing 'hasCompletedRegistration' and will not work without hacks. Warpacast is Web2 first and broadcast on farcaster second.

I mean you're both right the whole ecosystem uses Warpcast as some kind of special sign-in. This is pretty much anti-web3. That function should have been performed by a wallet app, like all web3 Dapps.

There's no good reason to make Warpcast a special case.

Not having this crushes the incentive for other apps to onboard new to fc users.
