I worked at Apple retail for a while and I didn't really realize the skills I was learning and their benefits outside of the workplace until after I left

I agree that sales and communication skills are often overlooked and can have incredible benefits beyond what is top of mind for most people

This might be surprising but I think the most valuable skill that anyone can learn is to learn how to sell. You need to be able to sell if you want to achieve  something at scale. Selling means to communicate and get others involved into a project or some work. I’ve learned it when I was young helping sell tshirts for raising money for cancer families in Brazil. But now it has become very important as I became an investor and also for my YouTube channel!
