Feels like we're in the very early stages of the second Ethereum civil war (based rollups)

what makes you think it’ll be so controversial ?

who's on the opposing side? shorter L1 block time + based rollups feels like a no-brainer to me at this point / the "obvious" place where all this ends up

I think there could be some zero sum tension between ethereum and l2’s along the way

i don't doubt there will be some pushback from L2s, I just can't imagine them mounting enough resistance to reach civil war status since I don't think any other meaningful players are on their side. The [promised] UX from based rollups is just so much better at the end of the day

I’d like you to be right. There’s a lot of money potentially at stake and rollups will get increasingly squeezed by a race to the bottom.

but i think that's exactly why it won't reach civil war status -- the L2s aren't monolithic here. the first to defect will take market share from the others. if an existing one won't, a new one surely will (have already seen 1 or 2 pop up)

why do you think switching to a based model will help grow market share? I don’t see an obvious user benefit

fwiw i don't think the user benefit _is_ obvious. long version: https://www.youtube.com/live/YqiCpLd8ecM?t=1941s condensed (i tried) version: centralized sequencers are temporary (bc legal & ux/devex ruggability). when considered against "external" decentralized sequencing, the simplicity (= security) and composability of based rollups are strictly superior. thus most assets will choose to live on and most devs will choose to build on based rollups. users will follow. i suppose if an existing L2 can decentralize its sequencer and build up some kind of lindy effect before the outstanding ux issues are resolved then.. maybe, idk. but it doesn't seem like they have a ton of time to figure it out, and they also likely would still want/need to figure out shared sequencing (which you just get for ~free w based rollups) wdyt?
