This famous picture, taken by American photographer Eugene Smith, became a symbol of the environmental disaster of Minamata disease - severe methylmercury poisoning caused by industrial discharges into the water.
Minamata’s disease, identified in the 1950s, was the result of toxic contamination that caused neurological disorders, paralysis and congenital deformities in hundreds of people, including small Tomoko Kamimura. 0 reply
