Fascinating podcast by @erik (since @dwr.eth unofficially retired as a podcaster, I need new shows) Samo Burja states that if countries like Saudi Arabia or Australia desalinate water and are ambitious, they could “terraform” their countries. TIL Israel apparently has already done this to some extent.

Pretty sure the vast majority of Israel’s drinking water is desalinated.. they even refilled one of their lakes or something w it.. maybe the Sea of Galilee? But if you really want to be amazed check out “Watergen” - they’re an Israeli company that built atmospheric water machines that pull water out of thin air 🤓

Wdym some extent? Desalination allowed Israel to go from perma-drought to 85% of drinking water desalinated PLUS it provides Jordan with 50 m3 each year (and Jordan asked for another 200m. It’s been around since the 90s. Australia? Saudi? Why isn’t California doing this?
