i worked with this guy once at LL Bean who was such a hardcore vegan he would try to buy as much **pre-owned** leather goods as possible because in his philosophy if the animal already died the most ethical thing to do is maximize the lifespan of the leather goods it produced instead of having the life wasted

yes, this is a pretty common viewpoint pretty far down the spectrum of impact and it’s easy to come up with counterarguments for most of these kinds of things so definitely not unanimous
