Are we becoming more or less sensitive? My sensitivity experiments started with code determined by sun radiation data, and ended with chemicals sensitive to UVA part of the sunlight spectrum on super thin rice paper. Code available on fxhash in ~ 10h

The current /gen-art banner is taken from the art project Herbarium by generative artist @alexandrajovanic and was released as part of the @fxhash interactive minting experience at The Ever-Evolving World of Art, Art Basel Hong-Kong, 2022 Aleksandra is famous for her signature style and aesthetic that blends (generative) art with infographics and scientific illustrations from the 18th and 19th centuries. You have almost certainly encountered her mesmerizing 10-part generative series Chromatlas, released on fxhash from January to July 2022. Aleksandra mentions two female artists as important influences and inspiration for her work, artist and natural researcher Maria Sibylla Merian and Anna Atkins, the first person to illustrate a book with photographic images using the cyanotype process.

We have two winners for our last banner event: Both, Chaos Control #29 by @olgaf (suggested by @wonow) and Herbarium #572 by @alexandrajovanic received 11 likes in total. They will now share heading the channel for the upcoming weeks, starting with Olga's work. In consultation with Olga and Wonow, and suggested by @luka, we decided on an output with a little more color and are now using a crop of Chaos Control mint #27. Thanks to everyone who participated in the event, either by proposing an artwork, by leaving likes or comments or by spreading the word 🙏

A suggestion for an absolute wonderful project from an outstanding generative artist: H E R B A R I U M #572 by @alexandrajovanic You can accuse me of having a male view on "female art" suggesting a curvy, floral work, but revisiting this 1K mints @fxhash project by Alexandra just left me speechless for its inherent overall beauty. Might need to revisit to pick the perfect output for the 3:1 cropping, but you get the idea.

Scrolling through this channel it’s disappointing to see the overwhelming majority of images are of women—scantily clad, or idealized. Given a magical machine that can make any picture at all, are beautiful, slim, young (usually white or Asian) women all that we can imagine? As an artist, have you ever asked yourself: why am I placing a conventionally pretty, young woman in this image? Why not a man? Or an old woman? Or two teenaged boys? Or a dog? If you’re sexually oriented towards women, are you making art or expressing your sexual fantasies? If you’re a woman, is she meant to be you? If so, do you look anything like her? Or do you wish you did? Is that why you put her there? I’m not going to lecture about “the male gaze.” Either you know about it already or you can look it up. But I hope people will think and look at little more critically at what people who call themselves AI artists—including themselves—are making.

I did some tests with cutting paper on mu cutter (blade, not laser), but eventually was easier to cut by hand for this combination digital print and cutting shapes. This is combo plotter and cutter (and sun ☀️ ):
