Patronage is not a business model It can be a feature that's embedded into an app as a way to expand optionality of how users engage, but I'd take the bet 10 times out of 10 that it won't lead to a sustainable source of revenue

there's some really great tennis stat about how many of the people that were very good simply did a better job at avoiding unforced errors (was less about winning, and more about just not losing) and then the really great players rarely made unforced errors, so they had to really win the matches against each other

There's so much value in simply writing down things as they're happening + sharing those thoughts publicly Case in point: Namecoin came up in an internal discussion the other day as an early protocol that had been working on something similar to what we were debating. Namecoin was a 2014-era crypto project. USV documented pretty much every interesting flavor of what was happening crypto at that time - and because of that, I was able to find two informative blogs on Namecoin in under a minute

Update: it was user error - I clicked Ethereum as the chain (thinking it was ETH the asset). $5 USDC converted to $4.95 ETH on Base Definitely my fault, but am also someone who is very familiar with interacting onchain. Still wonder if there’s a way to make the swap experience even simpler to reduce user errors like mine

Wanted to tip some farcasters I had great debates with last week - sharing my experience (as a crypto savvy user) bc it was still so subpar 1. Gas issue - didn’t have ETH on Base. Plenty of USDC, disappointing I couldn’t use that 2. Went to swap some USDC to ETH. $5 USDC -> $3 ETH (see screenshot). This feels absurd 3. Looking at the screenshot now: I think it would have been ETH on Ethereum (not Base, which is what I needed). Realizing this in real-time as I write this post. Experience of selecting an asset to receive was very clunky; feels like it should have been far more simple

Found your blog through Warpcast's algo and have really enjoyed it! Any chance you'd be willing to do a follow up blog on what distribution strategies have worked well for Plaid? Or even just a story or two about non-intuitive distribution wins in Plaid's history (ie so you don't give away Plaid's secret sauce 🙂)
