"What are those big gaps in lower-end of FIDs but no activity?" Based on a hint from @artlu, I used the new search "from:" feature in Warpcast to find a high-level explanation. I wonder if the contracts changed, and now you can't register a FID without paying for storage, because we don't see these issues any more? Which part do you find confusing? Prior to the change, you could register for a FID independently of paying for storage. This meant you could grab a bunch of FIDs for the cost of executing the contract function. After the change, you must register a FID and buy at least one unit of storage at the same time. It is now much more expensive to grab a bunch of FIDs.
