I wish the airlines would just tokenize air miles and allow for a secondary market on the blockchain. Imagine being able to buy and sell $ONEWORLD tokens or swap them for $SKYTEAM for your next redemption booking

what would determine their values? the open market? or how they're being applied by their respective ecosystems?

Yes, by the market. Miles already have a proxy value based on how many you need to redeem a flight that is otherwise worth $X. So the market can easily take care of pricing
