but tbf, they've kinda always been arms length despite backing some good ones from time to time

they backed my former workplace too

I don't think any of the YC partners are really in the crypto trenches, that's why a lot more people are gravitating towards a16z and folks like alliance

was in a s16 company, same batch as request network, and they'd already invested in coinbase and filecoin at the time

think they didn't get much out of many of the companies that have passed through since then, but imo this is because saas metrics aren't as applicable in web3

True. To be fair, it looks like YC is moving with the meta these days. Let’s see what kind of companies they start backing in the next 15 years.
