Matthijs de Ligt: I hope I can take Man United back to where they belong - at the top

Manchester United newcomer Matthijs de Ligt has spoken about his goals for the Red Devils.

“I hope that myself and the other players who come in this summer can be part of the Manchester United story and take the club back to where it belongs - at the top. There’s a lot of amazing talent in the team. They haven’t won the league title for a long time, but they’ve won the FA Cup and the League Cup. So they know how to win, and hopefully we can build a team together that will fight for all the titles.

To get this opportunity and play for this club at this level, help them win trophies, is amazing. Hopefully I can contribute to the next chapter of Manchester United’s history,” de Ligt was quoted as saying by Mirror.

De Ligt joined Manchester from Bayern Munich in August 2024. The transfer amounted to €45 million. The player’s contract with the club runs until the summer of 2029.
