update: i didn't want to do a dramatic "i'm leaving twitter" tweet so i just put up an http 301 moved permanently status code and will just leave the account as an archive pointing here (all my past tweets are likely already grok ai food anyways) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

it's difficult but elon drove me out. i tried to ignore it using extensions like control panel to hide all the bad stuff but it wasn't enough my twitter was mostly crypto related anyways so it wasn't too hard to walk away since i'm feeling a little jaded about crypto in general anyways ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ a few years ago i had a large ig that i shut down bc i didn't like what zuck and meta were doing. that one was harder bc it was both personal and professional but besides the general distaste for the actions of meta, it was also causing me a lot of body image and mental health issues. so now i'm more careful and try to recognize the warning signs of social (there's been many from twitter since elon took over)

i am glad you're recognizing things and taking actions. the elon stuff rn is very bad. there was a just a thread i saw documenting his (illegal, from what i understand) and racist PAC targeting of campaign ads. however, i don't want to let down the gallery currently promoting my irl work-- my third space gardens-- in an irl exhibition. but even doing that and checking has made me frustrated b/c of the other (trash) i see. i use fb and ig as little as humanly possible. i also have issues w/ what they know & have done re: body, mental health. very nasty. re: crypto. i think i've reached that point. the things happening right now are so yucky and disinteresting to me. i just described this year to someone else in similar circles as a 'brushfire' year. just wipe it all. new tools. new things. there will hopefully be time to build them elsewhere, b/c what exists rn is (somehow!) only getting **worse** day by day.

i think that's the most frustrating thing for me – how so many businesses/institutions still treat twitter like a neutral ground which it totally is not anymore. every day it becomes more of a propaganda machine for elon. the algo there now injects elon into everyone's timeline even if u don't follow him and hides things that u do want to see. bc of this alone, it becomes useless for anyone using it for any kind of announcements bc u don't even know if those announcements will be seen (╥_╥) not only that but u also need to be signed in to see the tweets so it's also gated and even more limited in reach (๑>ᴗ<๑) that said, i don't think the solution is to move to another platform but to instead strengthen one's own independent web presence so as not fall into the trap of platform dependence ever again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ if more ppl did this, then better tools and resources would likely spring up around that desire rather than go towards building better traps
