Why do some social media clients waste so much screen space? I get layout and design but I don't see the added value in this case.

Besides that I'm happy how my own client is progressing. I prefer some choices over those made in other clients.

(There's enough to criticize still, although in some cases Qt forces my hand.)

Warpcast does this as well but at least the whitespace is used to indicate a reply.

The one on the left not only saves space, it looks neat and nice to look at
