It's interesting because this is what totally turned me off of Duolingo. I would still use it if I could just turn all that shit off. Same for Warpcast: I know it's not your main moneymaker but give me a chronological feed of who I follow. Hide it deep in the settings, make me work for it, make me pay for it. Give me an option out of this addictive, soul-sucking, attention economy.

Frankly it scares me Duolingo is held up as an example like this because now more products are going to imitate it. I can't wait for my banking app to nudge me. I've always used ad blockers (Privoxy in the late 90s?) and similarly I turn off almost all notifications for all apps and it's such a hell whenever I use someone else's phone or computer who doesn't do that. How can a person function, let alone think, with that constant bombardment for one's attention?
