I can believe this based on my own experiences. (Iโve never worked in construction, it thereโs a strong correlation between the jobs I was happiest in and the jobs that involved a high degree of manual labor.)

One theory: How long is the feedback loop between an action you take and itโs result? The shorter the loop the happier you are?

Gonna split a hair (would you expect less?), modifying to "...and it's positive result". The short feedback loop eg "was this code change correct, yes or no?" tickles my brain BUT when the result isn't desired it's more frustrating than rewarding in my experience. Think you're onto something with the observation.

nah come on. having those frustrating moments is what makes coding so delightful, it needs to be a certain level of challenging/stimulating. ๐
