With high (popular) season about to begin in Chiang Mai (CM) it's good to know how to find the best value for accommodations. # Book in person You can book a hotel for the first few nights and then go around to places to ask what the rate is. For example when booking a monthly rate at a hotel in Ping River for October it was a 20% better rate than what was listed online. Also save another 2% paying in cash instead of with a credit card which is normal protocol here. # Apartments instead of Airbnbs and hotels For the cities I lived in Colombia and many other LATAM cities I've heard through friends monthly Airbnbs usually are the best value option. In Chiang Mai I've observed modern month-to-month serviced apartments can be half the price of modern 3-star hotels and a third of the price of Airbnbs. Serviced apartments often mean fully furnished, washer, weekly cleaning, and sometimes other amenities like a pool, sauna, and common areas. The Nimman neighborhood has the largest supply of serviced apartments.

I shared thoughts on Nimman below. Talking to a person at my current coworking space, they commute across town, Ping River to Nimman everyday in ~10 min on a motorbike. If you're comfortable riding a motorbike and can spend a few days to get your license here this could be an option, although not practical for most. I'm fortunate to have a friend who's lived in CM on and off for the last 10 years teach me the above. πŸ™πŸ» https://warpcast.com/adamhurwitz.eth/0xf2729146

It is possible to find nice boutique hotels that are the same price as month-to-month apartments. However, it's of course not as good of a value since you get much more with the apartment. Still a great overall deal given there's so much to do and if you're active you'll rarely be at home anyways.
