I'm wondering if I can turn off my laptop's VPN when connected to my phone's hotspot that has a VPN enabled?

- Does the laptop connect through the phone's VPN or should you still have the laptop VPN turned on if you want to be protected?
- I see mixed results when I search for my IP address on my laptop. That is both my phone's intended VPN IP and my phone carriers' IP.

After seeing these results it seems that to have protection on both a phone and laptop while using a hotspot both devices need to have a VPN enabled.

@adamshurwitz While sharing a VPN connection over a hotspot is technically possible, it usually involves modifying the Android operating system. This requires some technical knowledge on rooting the device. We also have a dedicated article on this which you can find at https://t.co/OpI5un78fk.
