Every time Microsoft shafts their users by forcing them to upgrade, making perfectly fine hardware obsolete, Linux, and other alternatives have an opportunity to onboard millions of new people into their ecosystems. If I were Linux I'd use the upcoming support deadline to vigorously advertise to these users before then. Ubuntu has come a long way in the last few years and is much more user friendly than it was even 2 years ago.

Why do you think there has just not emerged a widely credible UI shell over Linux to property replace MacOS? (and I don't mean obscure but awesome project...I mean something broadly and easily adopted by n00bs) Apple used Unix to do the heavy lift, then built a bullet proof UI shell over it. The fact that Ubuntu is the best default, and it's close to unusable (my smooth brain acknowledged)...but it's like handing it to this shitty also-ran (Windows) that is NOT the also ran, it's the main shitty game. It has to be a co-ordination game problem, right? Centralised company can force resources to focus doing the hard shit (and UI is hard)...I mean, hell, Apple can barely keep it together with the slow crumbling of the citadel. MacOS is not as strong as it used to be (in my loose estimation) and damn near every new feature that comes out each year just lands for me as an anti-feature. Guys, just make Finder good again - stop it with the BS fiddling with window positioning crap Anyhow, curious phil-rant ends

"Ubuntu has come a long way in the last few years and is much more user friendly than it was even 2 years ago." PS: my obnoxious rant aside - what is the goto MacOS equivalent user-experience for Linux that you might suggest Adam?
