This is your reminder that the founding team of Coinbase went all in on crypto when Bitcoin was under $100 and are true believers in the technology. Almost all companies today donât have that kind of pedigree. You can argue the execution but to argue the intention is disingenuous at best. If youâre a true believer you trust yourself to steward/shepard the transition into the new era. Without Coinbase itâs a bunch of tech nerds preaching about their niche cult. Coinbase is a force for good. Coinbase helps the world move on chain. Do they rip your eyes out on the trade from fiat? Sure but I remember when I first moved in I didnât care. It was the cost of having a reliable entity like Coinbase. Theyâve brought more people on chain than basically everyone. (Ofc as believers we all understand this was inevitable haha.) Criticize the execution all you want but you donât go all in building a company on Bitcoin sub $100 unless you truly genuinely believe in the technology.

I donât think centralizing is better than not centralizing. They get to do whatever they want but what they do is counterproductive to purpose of the technology.

âWithout coinbase itâs a bunch of tech nerds preaching their niche cultâ Hahaha Iâm sorry, thatâs not whatâs going on here? I mean seriously, if this current state is supposedly not that then we very much see the world differently.

Iâm certain my takes are shifted towards extreme, I do that on purpose for 2 reasons: 1) there is a clear imbalance of voices, plenty of coinbase sympathizers and my dms show that a lot of people are afraid to speak up which seems silly to me but true. 2) extremes are very useful to sift out the mid and highlight the real opposition

I was operating on a foundation of good faith until proven otherwise. Dan decided to reveal his allegiance and his softness in one fell swoop. The follow on was all the dms pointing out other perceived transgressions of Dan and merkle. Coinbase Iâve always had a problem with as theyâve been mediocre actors at best for many years. I was willing to accept that perhaps the mid step was required on a path to decentralization but after having earned our stripes dealing with banks I now just mostly think they were all too dumb, too soft, or too bought to pursue the real solutions. The options to be decentralized have always been there and banks are quite open to the designs (pre-trump)
