Oh!!!! Eclipse has been on my list to try out. I've heard great things.

It has a steep learning curve but it's a great game. The main hurdle is learning all the different types of tech. Once you learn the various categories, then suddenly there aren't ~40 options there are ~5 options and it's less overwhelming. 

It's probably still my fav board game overall.

I'd say about 45 minutes per person, maybe 1:15 per person on your first game or two. 

Great question. The original Eclipse has more expansions for it which can be cool but a lot of it is out of print and expensive. 

Newest version of it made a lot of really small balancing changes that tend to make a lot of sense. Also the organizer that comes with it is pretty great (at least better than the thousand bags the first one came with). 

I can still sit down with the original version of the game, have zero expansions, and have a wonderful time playing the game. Or I can play the tricked out newest version and still learn some things.

What is the average game length? Do you recommend purchasing the most recent version?
