Thought this was interesting, there's a research paper "Pettiness in Social Exchange" that found 81% of participants preferred to be friends with the person who paid back their friends in round numbers vs exact numbers because it felt less transactional

there are some cultures where paying people back is a sign that you consider the relationship transactional and dont want to hang out again
