Anyone else starting to get worried about this rise of casual open imperialism? Like, not "peaceful trade at prices social justice activists don't like" imperialism but actual "let's go conquer stuff" imperialism. I know it's "meant to be a joke", but often such jokes are a first step to normalizing something dark...

Dehumanizing jokes about annexing/absorbing your neighbouring countries aren’t funny, and they’re certainly not cute.

This is how you normalize imperialist sentiments and plant the seed that other nations shouldn’t have their own agency and sovereignty…and can eventually lead to actual violence.

You only need to look at the invasion of Ukraine to see what becomes possible once you start down this path.

Pretty firmly against given the state of the healthcare and political system compared to ours. We’ve got issues for sure, but yikes

I've been saying I could foreshadow a NAU type "North American Union", bringing in Mexico...

I'm not saying I'm for or against, I just saw it coming eventually.
