I personally think we should try to use the word “CCP” instead of “China” in these matters, to always remember that the Party may be something different than the People. But I don’t disagree with the direction of your point here!

I have to admit, TT is very hard for me to fit into my theoretical frameworks: - many competitors/close substitutes exist - not coercive or physically addictive - you don't miss out on some important 'conversation' if you delete the app and, the antidote to war is for both sides to see each other more empathetically

Starting the channel off with a spicy one! I'm in favor of banning TikTok (or forcing it to spun out to non-CCP affiliated control. Fentanyl feels like a more complex issue given it's relatively easy to procure precursor chemicals and it's mostly made in Mexico.

Seems like a little bit of revenge for the Opium Wars, TBH. They learned the power of flooding markets with highly addictive products all too well. The much more powerful geopolitical lever they’re trying is the Belt and Road Initiative, though. But that’s been faltering due to their recent economic woes.
