Agree. I am hoping for a last minute step-down & candidate swap... this is a rumor I have heard but no idea if it's just wishful thinking or based on any seed of truth.

Do you think that would be enough though? I feel like there needs to be an incubation period, where people get behind someone for real rather than the party hand selecting his successor

I agree 100%. Although I've heard a lot of fans of such a plan, I think it would be foolish. Trying to remember the names of the candidates being speculated to step up if this happens...
