Yesterday, I sat down with management at Prahran Market, Melbourne’s oldest food market, established in 1864, and was presented with an opportunity to lease a site in Market Square—an outdoor courtyard set to be reinvigorated with events, activations, music, and live sports on the big screen, with the market hand-selecting operators to shape its future. With the local council investing heavily in the market’s upgrade, this is a great chance to secure a spot early and be part of its long-term growth. The plan would be to relocate Nouns Deli, utilising as much existing equipment as possible to keep costs down while moving into one of Melbourne’s top food destinations. Prahran Market attracts 70,000 visitors each week and is evolving to meet a younger, more food-focused audience. This move puts us in a high-traffic, high-visibility location with room for future opportunities. We believe this is the right move for Nouns Deli, but we'd love to hear your thoughts or reach out with any questions ⌐◨-◨

What are the sunk cost that will be "lost" with this transition from Prop 254 and 557?

This move would simply be to upgrade our location to become more forward facing to many more eyes. Basically if a 25-50x busier shopping centre wanted you to move your playground, you could re-use the most of the equipment. But there will be some logistic and design costs. But you’re not building it from scratch.

It's easier to compare cost of building a new playground vs relocation cost + sunk cost lost. Establishment would be more tricky imo. Also it's not typical for an establishment to shift location just after 1yr of major make over? maybe its a norm, not in that industry so just trying to make sense & learn as of

Potentially, you’re overestimating the cost of what a relocation like this would equal. I believe you can relate a move or upgrade like this to any industry—when an opportunity comes along that elevates what you originally set out to do, it’s always worth considering, regardless of the timeframe. Personally, I believe this is the right move for the Deli, but I built it for the DAO, so I’m happy to hear members opinions. 🙏
