Why has there barely any innovation or new approaches to kids playground design?

Its always the same setup wherever you go

Have you seen the pier 26 playground?

It's gorgeous as sculpture, it's slightly more "dangerous" than most (that's unequivocally a good thing) in that it allows kids to treat almost every surface as climbable, and it's got a bunch of nice, robust little flourishes like a mister that runs periodically

and I guess most importantly, kids love it

I've spent a lot of time over the last five years at playgrounds and this was the first that seemed innovative in all that time
