What's the de facto process for token ticker symbols these days? i.e. how do prevent collisions? How does it work across Ethereum vs. Solana? Is CoinGecko the loose consensus canonical source of truth?

I think when people start speculating about a token launch they also start picking its ticker too. Happens organically I guess
