Like, from an "AI safety" perspective, scaling current techniques to even bigger compute -> earlier superintelligence -> more risk.

And from an "AI openness" perspective, it increases the divide between megacorps and plebs.

Globally abolish patent laws and nullify NDAs for anything computer-hardware related. Would reduce incentive to make the next version in the short-term, and at the same time make that whole industry less fragile.

Radical indeed, but there's a certain appeal to shaking up the status quo. It could be the 'open source' revolution that hardware desperately needs.
