why did he choose the name jelly rolll, it was taken

looked it up, his mom called him that when he was a kid. still though, name was taken by a legend. would be like calling yourself BB King or Lead Belly or something.

I would imagine it was a cruel nickname given to him in childhood by people who probably still have never heard of Jelly Roll Morton.
