the memes are funny but i think that australian breakdancing performance was disrespectful. made a mockery of both the olympics and breakdancing culture.

watching it again there's no way it's not a total send up. she does the sprinkler, hops like a kangaroo, rolls around on the ground. that's just me after 14 peronis.

I’m pretty sure there’s an international competition, but the Olympics requires at least one participating team from each continent I believe. For example Egypt was one of the few synchronized swimming teams despite being something like 35th ranked

But this is like rank 10035, would guess among all people with Aus passport there could’ve been “better” options. Need to investigate before dunking though, but doesn’t change wtf factor

https://www.worlddancesport.org/Competitions/Ranking/World-Championship-Leuven-Adult-Breaking-1vs1-B-Girls-58289 Looks like she ranked 64th at the World Championships I think people are underestimating how new it is as a “sport” - high level competitions really only emerged 5/10 years ago so the gap between top 5 and the rest will be steep

Just need to watch a breakdance video from the 80s, 40 years ago to know this was a clown show

Yeah but are there any other better Australian breakdancers? If so they could just show up to the Oceania championships and automatically qualify Raygun specifically got first last year for the Oceania qualifiers - https://www.worlddancesport.org/Competitions/Ranking/Continental-Championship-Sydney-Adult-Breaking-1vs1-B-Girls-60318
