is there a term for when something begins as rather inaccessible to the general public with a high barrier of entry (whether the cost of acquisition is physical or intellectual or both) that is slow dripped into the collective consciousness and becomes comprehensible over time?

crypto or cell phones or the internet would be examples of this.

We call pivotal points progress, innovation or evolution. These constantly happen in the micro and macro. Most fade away. The few that stay are called eras, trends, sea changes and paradigm shifts, which are then not points but ranges on the timeline.
