On token-gating I think it's conflating a tool for an outcome. People want to create vibrant and thriving community. Does token-gating enable that? Potentially, given the right product / UX and user base.

Early BAYC community had a great token gated experience, it created scarcity of experiences and drove buying pressure to get in. Unfortunately it changed as early people sold, and those wanting in the token gated experience viewed it as a cross selling opportunity

wow, interesting POV. BAYC is the #1 example i use for a poorly designed "token-gated XYZ". it feels like a mistake to call it a "token-gated experience". what experiences did it actually offer outside of the party? if BAYC was designed as a token-gated membership, it could have had a much different trajectory.

Have to say early BAYC community was one of the best NFT experiences I had Yes there were a lot of merch drops and events for holders (ApeFest was probably the last great event) We created subgroups based on attributes where some ended up doing business together or just hanging out IRL Ladies of BAYC Cheetah Gang
