As a creator, I’m always blown away by how much taxes mess with stuff we make. Take today’s example: Snuggies! You know, those cozy, wearable blankets. Well, in their ads, they always show Snuggies are “used” not “worn.” Why? So they get taxed as a blanket, not clothes. Yep, the IRS is out here deciding if you’re using or wearing your laziness. https://taxprof.typepad.com/taxprof_blog/2017/02/snuggies-are-blankets-not-garments-for-tax-purposes.html

Oh, this is interesting. But honestly, who would “wear” this anywhere but on a couch? Makes more sense as a blanket.

The marketing worked! If the IRS suddenly changed the tax rules to make clothes cheaper to sell, I bet we’d see examples of Snuggies as “fashion-forward robes.” Tax codes could have us rocking Snuggies on the runway.
