genuine question: how did U2 become like the biggest band in the world (iTunes releases, Sphere residency, etc) when i (and a lot of people i ask) can’t really name more than two songs?

U2 is no longer just a band—they’re a legacy act, a cultural institution. Think Springsteen. Think Eagles. Soon, they’ll be joined in that rarefied air by others from the alt-rock: The Cure, Depeche Mode, Green Day, Weezer.
