GM with something a little bit morbid, but absolutely fascinating to me. This is a Tower of Silence (also known as a dakhma). There is a religion originating from Iran called Zoroastrianism, where the dead are excarnated in these as a natural way of returning the body to the elements. I first heard about this in an episode of the 99% Invisible podcast. Well worth a listen imo (linked below).

Yea I think that's what happens 😊 That podcast is so interesting. Apparently, this method only works if there are vultures in the area. They are the most efficient scavengers so they pick everything clean. Other animals are more picky with what they consume so it's not so efficient.

Indeed fascinating! I assume the tower has to be emptied from time to time cause the bones won’t decay. Similar principle like compost bags lol
